Aphex Twin teases new album SYRO

Richard D James isn't exactly know for his forthcoming, conventional announcements. Nor, to be honest, is he very forthcoming with new music these days. It's been 13 years since his last studio album-proper, Drukqs, which was released all the way back in 2001. Despite commenting a few years ago that he had SIX albums worth of material ready to go, the only new music we've had from the enigmatic producer, who you'll probably know as Aphex Twin, was his old rare album Caustic Window, a copy of which was found on eBay earlier this year, purchased by fans using Kickstarter, and then eventually made available to everyone to stream.

But the wait could now be over, as a few days ago, James tweeted out a link to a website that had album details hidden within it, and it looks like a new album called Syro could be on its way to us soon. See what else we know so far, below.

Things started happening over the weekend, as Aphex Twin got what is presumably his new album campaign underway. A large green blimp emblazoned with his logo on one side, and '2014' on the other, appeared in the skies over London over the weekend, whilst simultaneously, a couple of spray painted Aphex Twin logos appeared on the streets of New York.

Then, he tweeted out this link: http://syro2eznzea2xbpi.onion

Having trouble getting it to work? That's because it's a link designed to only work through Tor, which is basically a sort of anonymous, private network that's become fairly well known for the shady activities that take place within it. You'd have to mess around with all sorts of proxies and DNS settings to get it to work.

Try this one instead: http://syro2eznzea2xbpi.com

At the top of this page, which you should be able to get to no problem, you'll notice that there's what appears to be crossed out album details. And that's exactly what they are, because if you can get the first link working, this is what you'll see instead:

As you can see, it appears that Aphex Twin will soon be launching a new album, and that it'll be called Syro. Exciting stuff!

There's no word yet on when we might be expect to be able to hear what will undoubtedly be another engaging and unusual album from James, but given the blimp that appeared over London at the weekend, it would be fair to assume that we'll definitely have our hands on it before the year is out.

You can see the full track list below (it's speculated the number beside each track is the BPM for each one):
