About Excited Octopus

Excited Octopus is a music blog dedicated to bringing you high quality, in depth coverage on the latest and greatest happenings from the world of electronic music. Yes, this means providing you with the latest tunes, but EO is more than that. There’ll be highly analytical reviews, debates and opinions on contentious topics, and a fond look back at forgotten albums and tracks.

Why an octopus? Octopuses are incredibly intelligent. I like to think that the audience that will accumulate here will be pretty smart too, and will demand content that’s more than just, “Here’s a banger, go listen.” And that’s our aim. EO will hopefully become far more than that, with our background in music providing fascinating insight into EDM and its surrounding culture.

There’s an excited octopus inside all of us. When you’re at a rave, or a gig, flailing your arms around to your favourite artist, totally lost in the moment - that’s him! Go ahead and let him out. We’re all here because we love electronic and dance music. What’s not exciting about that?

About the Author

My name is Alex Simpson. I’m a music student, preparing for the final year of my degree at the University of Hull. My background is mostly classical - I’m a proficient violin player - and my hope is that this will allow me to give a fresh perspective on dance music. I’ll demonstrate that in numerous ways over the coming months.

As well as this blog, I have a number of other projects. I currently write for Hull University’s Music Department Blog, which you can find here.

I’m also an aspiring producer and DJ, working under the alias Delta-A. I release a mixtape every month or so, and will feature some of my work on this very blog (because I’m a vain bastard). To see what I’m currently up to with this, you can use the links below.

Delta-A on Facebook, Mixcloud & Soundcloud.

Ethics & Copyright

I firmly believe that the boom in music blogs over the last few years has done wonders for the industry, and I feel that featuring an artist’s tracks or other work provides invaluable promotion for them. However, some don’t feel that way, and if you require something to be taken down, please contact me by clicking here.

Other than tracks that have been offered up by an artist for free, you will never find any download links on this site, and I would urge that if you like what you hear, support the artist by buying it.
