Knife Party - Parliament Funk (Preview)

Despite Rob's frequent proclamations that he wouldn't be back in the studio any time soon, it seems that he and Gareth have done just that, as Knife Party debuted three brand new tracks at this year's Ultra music festival in Miami.

The best of the three by far was this one, which is called Parliament Funk. We think, anyway. They used it to open their set, and you can see why.

It bears all the hallmarks of a classic Knife Party track, in the same vein as tracks like Power Glove, something which we didn't see that much of on their debut album Abandon Ship as the pair sought to expand their horizons somewhat and experiment with different styles and genres.

Menacing chords, catchy vocal samples, almighty buildup... it's all present and correct. The drop hits like a hammer, with the slightly off-pitch main synth erring just on the right side of crazy.

Perhaps it's a leftover track from the aforementioned album, or maybe it's been created since then. Either way, it looks like we might not have to wait quite as long as we thought to get even more new material from the hands of Swire and McGrillen. Look out for this track, as well as the two others (one's a collaboration with Tom Starr called Kraken, and the other is called Plur Police) whenever they drop.

You can check out a special extended and cleaned up rip of Parliament Funk above.
