Gorgon City - Unmissable (Feat. Zak Abel)

Gorgon City are back, and it seems that they can still do no wrong. Hot on the heels of their last single, Here For You, the house duo have dropped their next single, Unmissable, as they gear up for the launch of their debut album, Sirens, on October 6th. It's another fantastic piece of House, this time featuring the vocal talents of Zak Abel.

Listen to your new tune of the summer above, and then head below to read more.

The words 'radio friendly' and 'respected artist' don't always sit very harmoniously together. Fans always seem to dread the day that their favourite artist starts to get airtime of radio stations, as that in some way means that said artist has lost their integrity, has 'sold out', and is no longer underground, and therefore no longer cool.

That whole idea is something that I vehemently despise, and I'm sure I'll write about it in one of my Tuesday ramblings at some point. But regardless of how you feel about that, it just doesn't seem to be a problem that Gorgon City has been faced with at all, despite featuring heavily on the radio for a long time now. There's a couple of reasons for that, I suppose. The first and most important? They haven't changed. At all. You can tell when some artists have made a conscious effort to be more radio friendly, but Gorgon City have been like that from the start. They have a great knack for making House music instantly accessible, even to those who don't particularly follow the genre.

They helped to lead the House music renaissance (another topic I'm sure I'll cover at some point) with their breakout hot, Ready For Your Love, and now they're back with another song fit for the radio, Unmissable.

But oh, you'll certainly not get the best from this song from listening to it over the airways, where it'll no doubt be compressed to within an inch of its life, as the detail and fidelity and range of Unmissable is what makes it so good.

The silky smooth, House bassline? You probably won't even hear that on the radio, yet through a half decent set of headphones or speakers, it's what really brings this track to life. Seriously, the low end on this track is astounding - you don't hear it, you feel it.

However, if you're unfortunate enough to only ever hear it on the radio (though as you're here, that seems unlikely), there's still plenty to love. The thick piano chord progression is delightful, as are Zak Abel's vocals - they're fantastically delivered, and really help to make the track memorable.

With Unmissable, we're still firmly within Gorgon City's comfort zone, but that's by no means a problem. It'd be nice to hear a bit more of an exploration of new sounds and styles on their forthcoming album, but for now, Unmissable is more than enough to tide us over.
