Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk (The Noisy Freaks ft. Andrew Hunt Remix)

Now THIS is what you call a remix. Damn. It's no easy feat taking and remixing one of the biggest hits of both this year and last, but The Noisy Freaks have gone and done exactly that. You're probably familiar by now with a little song called Uptown Funk.

Well, if you thought the original was funky, you ain't heard nothing yet.

The Noisy Freaks' remix starts off very familiarly - you'd almost be forgiven that it was indeed the original you're listening to. But from then on, the track takes on a life of its own. The bass line is simply glorious, with the ascending walking lines, slides and growls underpinning the funk for the whole track.

Andrew Hunt lends his vocals to this remix, possibly because they were unable to find the official stems, or possibly because Andrew has such a great voice. Either way, he absolutely nails it, with a performance that may not be quite as slick as Bruno Mars', but is every bit as powerful and enthralling, if not more so.

What else can you expect to hear? Everything and the kitchen sink - but in the best possible way. Snippets of sax, blares of brass, licks of guitar, sublime robotic vocals... this remix literally has it all, and is all the better for it. It's all sliced up and thrown gloriously together, still managing to sound entirely cohesive, rather than the mishmash of sounds you might expect. That's a real testament to the French duo - and further proof that French dance acts really can do no wrong.

What I really love about this remix is its ability to catch you totally unawares - it never falls into any sort of pattern, and continually defies your expectations with its slightly quirky structure and amalgamation of different styles. The slight variations in chords from the original add further interest, and help to give it its French twist. All this, and they've still managed to cherrypick the absolute best parts of the original and leave them intact - I'm so glad the rising bassline from the original's buildup manages to make it in at one point.

I like Uptown Funk, but was starting to become fatigued by it. The Noisy Freaks and Andrew Hunt have absolutely given it a new lease of life. Is it better than the original? That's a tricky one, because the original itself is sublime. But it's at least as good, and if you listen to nothing else today, make it this.

I hadn't even heard of The Noisy Freaks before today, but I can't wait to see what they come up with next. Go grab your free download, right now.
