Varien - Valkyrie (feat. Laura Brehm)

You might think that, on paper, a song that mashes up the best aspects of Drumstep and Metal doesn't sound like the best idea ever thought of. But Varien is here to prove you wrong, and the genres have more in common than you might think. The producer returns with a brand new single with his extraordinarily distinctive style.

Valkyrie begins with an ominous acoustic guitar intro, before the smooth vocals of Laura Brehm enter. It's easy to see Varien's love of Metal - it's traits are everywhere. The chords, the epic vocals... And then, when the song drops, it's even more obvious, with a furious kick drum and overdriven guitars. Orchestral elements like the full choir add to the epic scale of the song.

It can be difficult to find unique sounds and innovation in EDM, but with Valkyrie, Varien proves that innovation is possible, and I'm grateful for his experimentation.
